Skulduggery Pleasant - the faceless ones

by Derek Landy
Review by Vladimir Manza (Year 11)

Okay, the story combines magic, humour and a talking skull.  What more do you need?  It follows Valkyrie Cain, a 14 year old girl, who is trying to stop a bunch of evil gods from destroying the world.  Skulduggery Pleasant is a detective with a sense of humour, he is very happy to play tricks on people so that he gets the bad guys in the end.  This book is so funny!  Skulduggery uses his magical powers in 'unusual' ways to make sure that his partner Valkyrie lives to see another day and the bad guys don't destroy the world.   This one is the third book in the series.

There are three of these books in our library and we are waiting for the next one.  They are cool, you should read them!
Here is a video from the publishers!

Meet our Asterix!

Wow! Aren't we lucky!

Our friends at the University Bookshop in Dunedin, always so generous to our library, have excelled themselves this week.

We have been given a wonderful display from their shop, which holds six Asterix softcover books.  It is brilliant!  It has now been installed in the Quick Reads section of the library and in the photo is being admired by Tu, from Year 11, as he browses in the Quick Reads section this morning.  Sam from year 13 was next into the library, and declared it awesome, and would like to take it home!  No deal!

Just wait till the juniors come in!

If you really like Asterix and his mates you could check out the website which has a heap of fantastic games and other info on it.
