The real thing by Brian Falkner

This book has been around for a little while now, and I kept putting off reading it because I didn't particularly like the cover. But I should have read it ages ago! It was really good! I have always liked the idea of a book written about a big company like Coke and something bad happening to their special product, and this book really fits that bill.

So what is it about: there only three people in the world who know what the secret recipe is for Coke, and they are kept apart so that the recipe cannot be lost. Then, as you probably expect by now all three of these people are kidnapped and held captive. On the other side of the world there is a boy with a special talent. He can identify different kinds of coke, can tell if it came from a bottle or a can, and even which size bottle it came from. The people at Coke find out about this special talent just in time and he and his friend are flown to the USA to try and sort things out.

This book has lots of excitement, kidnappings, tension, a bit of fun and lots of action. It's not a very big book but it really packs a punch - sometimes literally. I really liked it, and I'm going to read the new Brian Faulkner as soon as I can get hold of it - the boys keep loaning it before I can get to it.

The Regulars

Every lunchtime and interval in the library we see 'the regulars'.
  • These are the guys who come most days. They come to see if there are books they need to get hold of first.
  • They come to be the 'all powerful issuer' of the books.
  • They come because they are too busy after school to get their homework done, so they make a start on it during school time.
  • They come because their friends are here and they can have a big catch up with them.
  • They come because the library is the coolest place in the school - obviously!
These boys are probably the ones you will see the most in the library photos posted on here and they are avid watchers of the blog, so I thought I would make sure there were some photos on here for them to check out when they next visit. I will put some more on here soon as I notice some of the regulars aren't in these photos.
